Says Saturday's' Standard: To the multifarious duties of a Chief Magistrate there wag added perhaps the most original to-day, when the Mayor undertook the distribution of the fat bullock presented to the. Comniercal Travellers by Mr Ernest Short, of Parorangi. It will bo remembered that the animal was offered at auction at Feilding and sold and ro-sold - until the handsome sum of £373 was obtained. Mr Short fir.arry bought tho beast at £70 and presented it to the Mayor for free distribution. Itwas killed at the Feilding abattoir and cut up by the Manawatu Meat Company, from whose shop the Mayor, assisted by Mr D. J. Lovelock, made the. distribution to-day to people in poor circumstances. About, 100 joints were obtained from the bullock. The list of those lb whom the meat was distributed was compiled after consulting with the relieving officer (Mr Aisher), the district nurse, an<l ministers of religon.
