SAD DROWNING FATALITY.

Our Raumai correspondent informs us that the man Cowdrey, who was drowned on Saturday, was crossing the Pohangina river with his son, a lad of about 16 years of age. The river was slightly swollen, and Cowdroy was riding a 'flighty.' horse. One of his dogs got into the river above the horses and was washed down stream, coming into contact with Cowdrey's horse, which took fright and dislodged its rider. The lad saw his father, who was hampered by a heavy oilskin, standing up in the water some distance down stream, but he disappeared and was not seen again. The body was recovered yesterday morning by Mr Fred. Roberts, and was brought to the Raumai Hotel. Mr Cowdrey, who was about 50 years of ago, leaves a widow and five children. He was in the employ of Mr Didsbury, of Komako.
