THE ITALIAN CAMPAIGN. TREMENDOUS FIGHTING CONTINUES. BIT EI_ECTBIO rELEGKAFn. COriIUGUT. [United Servico Telegram.] Rome, August 17. Prisoners are still arriving Irom Gorizia. They are trembling and dazed and are suffering from tne terrible cifecte of the battle.
Gorizia is still under tlie trajectory of the opposing batteries, whicinpour in a terrific Hurricane of shells at times. This is nothing to the actual fighting scenes eastward of the town. Battalion after battalion comes in close touch -with the enemy. Every inch of ground is hotly contested and there are furious hand-to-hand encounters. Thickly armoured cars dash to within a few feCt of the enemy lines and pour an enfilading machinegun fire.

Lord Northclift'e writes: "The only way of fighting in the Alps is when, after months of tunnelling and drilling, 30 tons of dynamite blows off the top of a mouutaiu. Three Austrian strongholds have thus been destroyed. Each Italian gun position requires three months of cutting of galleries and catacombs.

Reports irom A r ienna state that two important Cabinet meetings were held yesterday and discussed separate peace with Italy, in order to devote all efforts against Russia.
