Tho Military Service Bill \vr,s received from the House of Representatives and read a first time. The second reading was set down for tomorrow. The Hon. J. T. Paul ■,-•..;-v notice to move "various amendments to the Bill. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. In the House, Notice was given by 'Mr Poole to ask the Minister of Railways if it is a fact that an alleged German is employed in the railway workshops at Auckland. Mr Payne gave notice to ask the Minister of Defence if he will arrange for returned soldiers being given firstclass nassages on the railways. In answer to Mr Vigor Brown regarding the employment of an alleged German as a teacher at Waiotapu, the Prime Minister said he would make enquiries. The Minister of. Railways informed Mr Payne that the extra shilling a day given to railway servants would be ..paid as soon, as the House voted the money. An amendment to the War Pensions Act was brought down-by Governor's Message. It proposed to extend the provisions of the Act to give the wife of a deceased soldier the right to a pension no matter what her income may be. Another amendment proposed to extend the benefits of the Act to men who engage on transports for the duration of the war. The amendments were of a technical character. The Messages were sent to the Legislative Council.

The Minister ol Defence rend letters establishing the nro-British proclivities of Sergeant J. B. Schoch. whose reputation bad been assailed. Tho Minister said that Sergeant >Wioch had done icood work at Ghllinoli and had been twice wounded.

The Minister of Defence paid a high tribute to tbe patriotism of members of the Dental Association in attending to the teeth of the men at the enmoa at most reasonable rates.

Sir Joseph Ward announced that the Financial Statement would be brought down on Friday evening at 7.30. and tbe debate would commence on Tuesday.
