CAR. AND TRAIN COLLISION ; KILLS 'TWO MEN.

MR PERCY LOMAX INJURED

A shocking accident occurred at Itniesbrook railway crossing, a short distance from the city, this afternoon, when a motor car travelling to Motueka collided with the incoming train. The car was driven by Mr F. R. Hallani, orchardist. of Tasman. who was accompanied by Mr H. I). Pine (until recently head of the jobbing branch of tbe Christchurch Press). Mr A. H. Green (advertising manager of the Press), and Mr Percy IL Lomax, land agent. Motueka. Tho car, which was travelling at a fair speed, struck one of tho waggons near the engine of the train with tremendous force, the car being wrecked and tho occupants thrown in all directions, the driver, Mr Hallani, -being hurled between the couplings of the wagons and landing on the far side of the train. He, miraculously escaped with a shaking and abrasions. The other occupants of the ear all seem to bo seriously injured. Messrs Pine, Green, and Lomax wero removed to the hospital. Mr Pino succumbed about an hour ufter his admission, and Mr Green died this evening. The latter had sustained terrible injuries to the chesl and alKlomen, and Mr Pine's injuries were internal. Mr had his left leg almost severed below the knee, and also sustained severe wounds about the head and body. He was operated on to-night, and lies in a serious condition. Mr Hallam states that lie put on the brake when he saw the train, but was unable to avert the collision. Tbo driver and fireman of the engine saw the car approaching and whistled vigorously, but tho warning was not heard by tbe occupants of the car. Innesbrook crossing has been the scone of several serious accidents.
