Walter Ruuciman, President of the Board of Trade, presided at 16 important trade conferences during the week, deciding the details of the expected proclamation regarding paper, building materials, and wood which will be issued in a few days, and concerning fruit- and tobacco within a fortnight. The Daily Mail states "that the importation ol all fruit is prohibited except bananas, and consumption is restricted to home grown. The Board of Trade has determined that merchants with accumulated stocks shall not be allowed to make extortionate profits.
