SITUATION IN PACIFIC WELL IN HAND.
Wellington, October 5. With respect to the announcement of the bombardment of Papeete by the German cruisers, Lord Liverpool has received information that the gunboat Zelee was destroyed and a considerable portion of the- town was also destroyed, by shell fire. His Excellency also received an assurance from tho British Admiralty that they have the situation well in hand.
