Three French dragoons made a sudden onslaught on fifty Germans garrisoning Lixy and killed several. The remainder broke their rifles and.surrendered. During the fighting on the Maine a boy named-Chatau surprised seven Germans sleeping in a house. With fixed bayonet ho demanded their surrender, which was readily acceded. Chatau aud a sergeant were the only survivors -if a reconnoitring party, and Chatau carried the wounded sergeant to safety.
