RESULT OF MASS MEETING Ul< FLAX WORKERS.
CONCILIATION TO BE TRIED.
Ihe meeting called by the flax workers' L'nion took place in the* Municipal Hall Palmerston, yesterday, and that building was filled- to overflowing by 700 or 800 men. The men were called out by tbeir Union to consider the question of striking over the deadlock with the employers on the swamp hands ejuestion. Mr R. H. Dalhousie, President ofthe Union, took the chair at the meeting, which began at 11.30 a.m.. and speakers thoroughly thrashed out the position.
After Luncheon Mr Hally, Conciliation Commission*!-, who had comtup from Wellington durng the forenoon, after settling the freezers' strike down There, addressed tilt mass meeting. It was finally decided that the men should return to work to-day, and that the two executives should meet under the presidency of Mr Hally. as Counciliator, and endeavour to come to an agreement, the meeting to take place, if possible, oh Tuesday next, at Palmerston. Those in the conference will include flaxinillers: J. Liggius, H. and L. Seifert, E. L. Broad, J. Tennant, 0. Higginson, and M. Cohen. Flax workers: R. H. Dalhourie (President) Robinson (Secretary), Briggs, Keys, W. McKenzie ,(T'okomaru), and C. Jensen.
