The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4,1909.
Crushed. That was the fate of the enterprising motion in favour of the purchase of a road roller brought up at yesterday's meeting of the Oroua County Council. We cannot understand why such a reception was given to a proposition that had .so promising a backing behind it. Hut the promoters of this advanced movement should not be fliscou raged. 1 Jacked by the promise of the Foilding Borough Council, they should commumoato with other local bodies, ;ind bring up the motion again. In the meantime, its opponents should be brought to see that it is not only a sound business proposition, but that the roads of the district will be greatly benefited by the application of a road roller. If the County Council fails to see the thing through, then ojir j Borough Council .should got the machine — and it will find a good cus_ : tomer in the Oroua County Council, thus reversing tho present position. Some time ago we suggested editori- I ally that the local bodies in this district should combine to purchase an up-to-date road roller. Now that it has come down to a practical phase, our local bodies might consider this aspect of the question, and thus get over the difficulty of the initial expense of purchasing snob a useful equipment.
