ADDINGTON MARKET.

Christohurch, March 17. At 'Addington to-day there were large entries of stook and a large attendance. Prices generally showed a still lower tendenoy.. Store sheep, in consequence of continued dry weather, were in weaker demand. Fat lambs were also less firm, and fat cattle, owing to heavy supply, were easier. Fat wethers showed improvement, but ewes were still further down. Baooners were also down, but porkers were dearer, and stores were not quite so keen in demand. Store cattle were dull of sale, but dairy cows were in demand. There was again a very large yarding of store sheep, the bulk being lines from a distance. The demand was decidedly slack, although some of the best lots o! two-tooth and good-mouthed ewes, whose condition was right, sold fairly well up to expectations, and, towards the end of the sale, showed a rise in price. - The same applies to a few lots of forward lambs suitable for rape. Travelstained ewes, low-conditioned lambs, and all descriptions of wethers, met with dull and dragging; sale, and at the commencement a- few lots were passed. Sound-month halfbred ewes sold at 14s to 15s; four and six-tooth, to 16s Is; and two-tooths to 17s 3d. A special line of two-tooths halfbred ewes, Wensleydale merino cross, made 265. Ordinary crossbred ewes, with sound mouths, but in low condition, made 10s to 11s 6d; and old ewes, 7s upwards ; forward lambs, 10s 9d to He 6d; average lots, 9s to 9s 6d; travel-stained and in low condition, 7s 6d to 18s 6d; culls, 5s to 6s 6d ; forward wethers, lls to 12s ; and backward sorts, 8s 6d to 10s. Fat Sheep.— There was a fair entry of fat sheep, there being a larger proportion of wethers than of late, and several lines of very prime quality. Export buyers were able to operate in wethers., prices now having got down to the.ir limits, and the consequence was that they sold better than last week. Ewes, on the other hand, met with a dull sale, and aged and inferior sorts showed a still further fall in prices. Prime wethers made 15s to 16s lid; lighter, 12s 8d to 14s 9d ; prime ewes, lls to 14s 6d ; others, 6s fad to 10s 6d. Store Cattle.— The market was easier for all but good sorts. A line of 50 three-year steers made £5 9s; l^months Hereford steers and two heifers, £7 ss ; two-year steers, £4 10s; two and three-year steers, £4 15s 6d ; dry cows, 60s to £4. ' Dairy cows were in good demand at £3 10s to £8 7s 68. The yarding of fat cattle totalled about 383. Owing to the heavy entry, tfhe sale was dull and dragging, and did not conclude till late in the afternoon. Prices, except for very prime steers and heifers, showed a decline. Best beef made 20s 6d to 225; medium, 18s to 20s; and cow and inferior, 16s to 17s 6d per 1001 b. Steers sold at £6 2s 6d to £10 10s; heifers, £4 5s to £7 10s; extra, £8 8s; cows, £4 5s to £7 ss; and extra to £8. Veal calves made 3s 6d to 575. BURNSIDE STOCK-MARKET. Dunedin, March 17. At Burnside stock market 2256 sheep were yarded — a very large yarding. Owing to butchers being fully -supplied prices receded from Is to la 6d per head all round. Old ewes and unfinished wethers were practically unsaleable. Quotations: Best wethers, IBs to 1& 6d; extra, 17s 3d: medium to good, 13s to 14s 6d; light and unfinished, 10s to 12s 6d; best ewes, 13s 6d to 14s 6d; extra 15s 6d: medium to good, 10s to 12s 6d. Lambs: 1322 yarded. Another good yarding, but not quite equal to last week's. The limits of freezing buyers have been reduced considerably, and there was consequently very little competition, prices showing a further decline. Quotations: Best lambs, 12s 6d to 13s; extra, 15s 3d; medium to good, 10s to 12s. Cattle: 217 yarded, a large entry, composed principally of medium?uauty stores and heifers. Prime ullocks sold at prices ruling lately, bufc for unfinished sorts "there was little demand. Quotations: Best bullocks, £8 to £9 10s; medium to good, £7 to £8; light and inferior, £6 to £6 10s; Wt cows and heifers, £6 to £6 10s; medium, £4 to £4 10s. Pigs: 110 yarded, a fair yarding, and the prices obtained being much the same as those of last week. Quotations: Suckers, 10s to 12s ; slips, 14s to 19s; stores, 23s to 28s ; porkers, 35s to 40s; light baconers, 45s to 555; heavy, 58s to 60s.
