ANOTHER PALMERS TON FIRE.

-♦ ■ — IN THE SQUARE. About 10.3U last night a tire broke out in Messrs Colliuson and Cunningham's tailoring establishment m the square, Palmerston North. A high wind was blowing, which quickly tanned the flames into a tremendous blaze which illuminated the whole 01 the surroundings. The flames quickly mounted up through the roor, and the whole of the top floor was a solid mass of flame. The high brick wall ot the adjoining building against which the flames could make no impression, acted as an effective fire break, and, but lor this, and the tact that the adjoining shops on the other side were low one-storey buildings, it is hard to say where destruction would have ended. The Brigade, however, got to work with a will under Supt. Warner, and though the battle was a fierce one, at last secured the mastery not, however, till the back portion of Collinson and Cunningham's was completely gutted. The rear portion of the adjoining boot shop occupied by Thacker and Co., -was considerably damaged by Jir© and water, and the rear of Levy's tobacconist shop also damaged. The insurances on the stock are as follows: Collinson and Cunninghamc, £1050 in the Commercial Union; €750 in the New Zealand Office; and £'000 in the Northern Company. S. Thacker, £300 in the New Zealand; £'350 in the Alliance; and £350 in the Commercial Union. The amounts on the building are : Collinson and Cunninghame, £100 in the Commercial Union and £550 in the New Zealand. Thacker's. £450 in the New Zealand. Both buildings are owned by Waldegrave Bros.
