THE SCHOOL PICNIC. fOUB OWN CMRBESPONDENT.I The paddocks between Mr Mills' houso and river presented a gay and animated appearance on Wednesday, when the Cheltenham Schoott picnic was held. The weather was just right, as the breeze that blew over the river-bed cooled the heated air. A good programme of sports was gone through. The onerous duty of handicapping was well carried out by Mi Hector Booth. Mr Mills, senr., presented the books saying -a few appropriate words to each recipient. The principal prize-winners were: Standard Vl.— Sophie Stretton Standard V.— Walter Booth 1, John Harrie, 2; May Mills, 8. Standard iV.—lvy Stretton, 1 j Stephen Barrow, 2* Jack Wiltshire, 3. Standard in.— Hugh Burrell, 1; Arthur Sandilands, 2; Renie Sandilands, 3. „ Standard IL— Edith Ayres, 1; Albert Greer, 2. ' Standard I.— lvy Meads, 1 Wiflhe Mitchell % Prizes, presented by Messrs It. Moore and R. Martin, were awarded to pupils who had the best kept garden-plots, the principal winners being Phyllis Bruce, Ivy Stretton, Jaok Wiltshire and Frank Stretton. The awards for the best attenders during the year attaracted a good deal of interest, especially when .t was found that the two chief winners were two little mites, Edith and Lily Ayres, who came from a distance of over two miles through all sorts >f weather regularly, to school. Tea, cakes, Jollies, ■ etc. , were provided by the ladies, ana were partaken of in the shade, of the trees, which encircle the picnic ground. The day's outing ' was enjoyed b- all — especially the visitors, some of whom, formerly associated with the school, coming from Stanway. Waituna, ni;Kiwitea.
