COMPENSATION.

INCREASE OF INSURANCE RATES FOR WORKERS. Synchronising with the coming into operation of the new Workers' Compensation Act to-morrow, the insurance rates for accidents will be increased by about 10 per cent., except in the case of miners, the rates for which for the present have been fixed. A circular issued by the Accident Underwriters' Association of New Zealand shows that where the old rates were 10s, on Ist of January next lls will have to be paid, and so on in proportion, the £100 rate will be increased to £110, and the £140 rate to £160. The new Act providing for additional compensation payable by employers has necessitated an increase; of the premium to cover the added liability. Liabilities as under the; Act will, however, be covered as under the old rates until the expiration .of current policies. ;
