•**•*■ ! rOJJK OWN CORRESPONDENT.! I The weather during the past week has been very boisterous, and as a result the retailors suffered in their Christmas trade. Nevertheless, quite a number ventured out to do shopi ping. Messrs Heldt and Sons' premises were extensively decorated with evergreens in keeping with tbe good old seasonable custom. Christmas Day was spent here in the usual way, excepting that tbe carol singers could not venture out in such weather. In the evening a united service was held in the Public Hall, wben Messrs J. McKenzie and F. S. Guy gave short addresses, the captain of the Salvation Army corps sang a Christmas solo, and Dr. Gregory presided at the organ. Boxing Day greeted us with beautiful sunny weather, and the hopes of our Presbyterian friends, _ who dreaded a postponement of their annual picnic, were brightened. Mr M. O'Connell's paddock was the scene of the picnic. This event, which ia always looked forward to. proved fuL ly up to the usual standard, and everybody enjoyed the outing thoroughly. The Scotch Concert, which wa-s held on Boxing Night, was well attended, but, owing to the disappointment felt at the Feilding singers not putting in an appearance, thp enjoyment was somewhat marred.
