OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

ITS MONTHLY MEETING. The orcßnary monthly meeting of the Oroua County Council was neld to-day. Present: Ors. G. C. Wheeler (chairman), W. G. Pearce, Thos. Rowling, J. H. Vincent, Redmayne and Reid. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were dealt with: — From the Paymaster-General, advising that £2807 16s 11 had been remitted to the Gorge Bridge Account. From the Bartholomew Timber Co. Ltd., statinggthat they are keeping a stock of West Australian jarran.. . From Mr E. J. Armstrong, forwarding statement, audited by the Chairman, of receipts and expenditure of the monies provided by the six public bodies contributing towards the costs incurred by the Drainage Committee. a From the Kairanga County Council, conveying thanks for the consideration shown in waiving claim for eonfreyng their workmen on the Gorge ferry. From Mr J. Jepson, asking for one month's leave of work owing to ill-health. From Mr Robt. Currie, asking the Council to give their attention to the state of the dairy factory drainage at Bnnnythome. : From Mr G. M. Ranson, asking Council to cause the abatement or the public nuisanoe arising from the cheese factory at Bunnythorpe. ENGINEER'S REPORT. Mr Boy L. Harding (Engineer) reported as follows: — I have had the six Bmall bridges in Makino riding and the one in Raumanga riding tarred below the decking and painted above as authorised at last general meeting. The old 3ft" by Bft wooden culvert on Mackay's line is now being replaced by a concrete culvert haying a clear waterway of sft by Bft. I have had to lengthen this culvert another five feet so that traffic will not be interrupted. This work I should be completed next week. J. hare had the Cemetery road patched with gravel, but I think it will require about another 900 yards later on in the season. The work of forming a bridle track on Penelope road from the end of the present formation to the FeiHing-Ashhurst j road has been completed satisfactorily. road has been commended, and is progressing very satisfactorily. 1 I am having this road widened from 8 to 10 feet, and expeot it to be finished in about five weeks, at a cost or about 7s 6d per chain. There is a total distance of about 260 chains, making a total cost of £97 10s. The ' work of filling in the drain and forming a summer road alongside the Ashhurst-Palmerston road has been ! completed. The footpath on the i Feilding-Ashhursfc road has been formed as authorised, and the footpath round the reserve at Ashhurst has been gravelled. # i Tenders, to close at this meeting, have been calld for gravelling (xrove road, Greenhow's road, and Henaghan's line and also for the erection of a store shed at the back of the Council Chambers. TREASURER'S REPORT. The Treasurer's report showed the Bank balances to be as follows :— Riding accounts. — Cr., Raumanga £38 6s 6d, Makino £195 14s 3d. Dr., Taonui £548 11s 3d, Hiwinui £62 7s, Otangaki £323 5s 4d, Mangaone £16 10s 6d, Rangitawa £142 2s Bd. General aocount. — Rates levied £4907 2s Bd, collected December 1 £2679 Is lid. Bank balances.— Dr., , General account £323 14s 2d, Interest account £28 9s 4d, No. 21 Loan account £660 11s 2d. Gorge Bridge account, cr., £2476 0s sd. TRANSFERS. The following alterations were made in the rate roll: Subdivision C, part section 50, 65 acres, George Parr to E. A. Buchanan; subdivision X., Manchester Block, 100 acres, Mrs S. Barnaby to H. C. N. Sandilands. Section 7a, subdivision G., Manchester Block, 2 acres, D. C. McCarthy to J. H. Ashworth.
