The question of the political attitude of the Union in the approaching contest was brought up, and aiter some discussion the following resolution was carried unanimously: That this Branch' urges the Union to take no active steps against any candidate who pledges himself to support the Farmers' Union platform." During the discussion there was evident a very strong feeling on the part of members that it would be a very great mistake for the Union to identify itself with any particular candidate. I Messrs Morton and Fowler were appointed delegates to attend the Feilding meeting of the Union called for the purpose of discussing the Union's political attitude. The Chairman brought up the question of the annual dinner; and a strong committee was set up to arrange for the holding of the sam^. At a meeting of the Dinner Committee, held afterwards, it was resolved to hold the dinner on ortabout the 25th inst. and to invite Mr Gil- ! ruth (Chief Veterinarian) to give an address on some farming question on the evening before the dinner. # Also to invite, amongst others, Mr Ritchie (Secretary for Agriculture) and Mr Lethbridge, M.P. Some doubt was expressed as to the catering, as a local Boniface absolutely refused to have anything to do with the catering. The committee, however, expect to arrange the matter satisfactorily.
