fPEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. t Wellington, March 30. The Department- of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, 28th March : — The mutton market is firm. Stockß of New Zealand mutton on hand are light, and only small shipments are expected. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4jjd for light weights, 3Jd for heavy weights; other than Canterbury, 4|d for light weights and 3jjd for heavy weights. There is a good demand for all lamb, and shippers are increasing. Canterbury brands are quoted at s|d, other* than Canterbury, 5Jd. The beef market is quiet, but firm, and is increasing in the demand for better grade. Hindquarters are quoted at 3j]d, forequarters 2|d. The butter market is quiet, but steady, and buyers are holding back, expecting tho prico to go lower. There is a good locaj, but no speculative, demand. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 11s, Danish 113s, Australian 108s, and Argentine 108s. The cheese market is steady, and there is a better demand. White makes are quote dat 60s, coloured at 625. ° The hemp market is quiet, but rather steadier, and heavy shipments are expected from Manila. The following are current quotations: Goodfair grade, on spot, £24 10s; fair grade on spot, £22 ; fair current Manila, on spot, £24 10s. April-Juno shipments are quoted as follows: Good-fair grade, £23 10s; fair grade, £21 10s; fair current Manila, £23 10s. The cocksfoot market is firm, owing to a speculative demand. There are light stocks on hand, and it is reported that the cocksfoot seed harvest in New Zealand this season is light. There is no change in prices. The wool market is rather duller.
