London, March 27. _ Lecturing on the necessity of the war chest in Britain or a greatly iiioroased gold reserve. Sir Robert Gtriffen urged the possibility of some great war breaking down the whole system of international credit. London, March 29. The Duke of Devonshire was buried with the simplest, ceremony. Two retainers watched beside the 'coffin in the Edensor Church at midnight. The mourners including representatives of the King, and the Kaiser, met at .the Church, where the ; workmen of the estate, gatekeepers, etc., were assembled. . The Hon. victor Cavendish, who succeeds £o the Dukedom, was also present in the private burial grounds. The Duchess was present in a" Bath chair. The memorial service was held, in St. Margaret's, all the leading politicians being present. INTER-UNIVERSITY SPORTS. (Received March 30, 8.46 a.m.) London, March 29. In the inter-University sports, Cambridge won six events, and Oxford four. Robertson, of Adelaide, who was in the Oxford team, was second in putting the weight. Sutton, of Melbourne, who ran for Oxford, was third in the mile event; Murray (Cambridge) was third in the hurdles. THE BRITISH PREMIER. Sir Henry Canipbell-Bannerman shows little change in his condition, but there is no further marked loss of strength.
