THE POTATO- MARKET.
The Dunedin correspondent of the Lyttelton Times telegrap^d on Wed. nesday that potatoes are coming forward in very large quantities. Shipments from Australia are causing the market to be very much easier than has been the c.ase throughout the season. Prime lines, which were on offer at £5 10s last week, are difficult to sell to-day at £4 15s. Prices will probably be much lower in the near future. Cabled advices received in town yesterday stated that the London wheat market was weak in tone and, with the large quantities afloat, there is likely to be a further drop in prices at Home. This, of course, must be reflected in the local markets. Owing to the high prices asked by the wheat-growers in the north, a movement is on foot to import a cargo of wheat from Adelaide. Oats are selliing firm, but as the supplies are increasing daily, an early fall in price is expected.
