MR E. SHORT'S ROMNEYS

AN ARGENTINE OPINION. It will be remembered that some months ago Mr E. Short, of Parorangi, shipped a string of somo of his best Bheep (one ram and 30 ewes), to an estanciero of Arg en *i na > Demetrio Windmuller. News has come to hand .. of the arrival of the sheep, together with an opinion from the purchaser. M. Windmuller writes: — "I must sincerely express my admiration of the ewes. They have* good conatitutioiu, hagh-olass wool, good .frames. They touched my eye at first sight, principally from the wool point of view. Some of the ewe hoggete are the best I have ever come across. I don't know how you have been able to combine density of fleeoe, length of staple and fineness of wool. No wonder your sheep are gaining bo many prizes ; they deserve it. The ram is a fine animal. He will give a good weight of wool, but the quality is a little strong for our purpose. We want only fine-woolled rams. The tendency of our sheep is to degenerate in the wool. We have, therefore, to be careful in counteracting this weakness. The ram will be just about on the line; anything stronger in the wool is not fit for oar market. You may object that it is difficult to combine wieght and fineness, and I would quite agree with yon in this, but you will admit that to improve strong-woolled sheep we have to insist upon the point of fineness. I don't consider Record 4th a cosrse-wooUed sheep, his wool is ft Kttk on the strong aide."
