The representatives of three of the coastal companies waited on the Premier and stated that they were unable to carry on business because of the mob rule which prevailed round tlie wharves, and it was hoped the Premier would be able to place the dispute before a competent tribunal for settlement. After seeing representatives of coastal companies, Mr Wade, Premier, communicated wifch the President; of the Waterside Workers' Union, and asked him to put before the Strike Committee a proposal to refer the dispute to an 'Arbitration Committee. The President declined to agree to this course, but was prepared to meet and confer with representatives of the coastal companies. A deputation from the Trades and Labour Council placed before the Premier the labour view regarding the new Industrial Disputes Bill. Mr Wade, in reply, said the only reason the Government had for changing the system of arbitration was to secure expedition and finality.
