PARLIAMENT.

i (Continued from fourth page.) After the telegraph office closed, Mr Herries pointed out the appa- , rent anomalies in salaries paid to officers of the Stock Department. He also inquired about the condition of the Stock and Veterinary Departments, an alleged difference in which (in consequence of a circular issued by the Minister) was a good deal discussed last year. Mr McNab stated the work of the two departments had been clearly defined. The Victorians were not required to do what might be termed 1 police work. The new system had worked without a hitch of any moment, and he failed to see why it should not do so. The difference in salaries was more apparent than real. The officers appointed as inspectors were chosen for particular fitness for the positions. Mr Massey urged that a bonus should be given for a solution for destroying noxious weeds. Mr McNab said a Bill would be brought down this session dealing with noxious weeds when the matter could fully be discussed. The Department , of Agriculture, total vott £139,693, was passed unaltered. ' Progress was reported . ana--xne House at 3.10. a.m.
