MANAWATU RACING CLUB

At the annual meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club last night, reference was made by the Chairman (Mr R. S. Abraham) to the conference of country clubs at Feilding. He said that it was held at the instance of the Rangitikei Club, to which M.R.C. sent two delegates. A number of important resolutions were carried, none of which were laid before the New Zealand Racing Conference. It seemed to him that that meeting at Feilding was held solely to prevent Manawatu Club having representation on the Conference. Tbe Rangitikei and Ashhurst Clubs thought they had a grievance, but even stronger support was accorded to this movement by tho Wanganui and Feilding Clubs which was very difficult to account for. (A voice: It was pure jealousy). The chairman said he did not think it right that the premier club on this coast should quietly submit to the present very unsatisfactory condition of things, namely, non-repre-sentation on the N.Z. Conference. The Chairman quoted the following figures showing the steady increase in the totalisator figures: — 1903-4, £53,059; 1904-5, £59,988; 1905-6, £59,898; 1906-7, £72,203. The following were duly elected : — President: Mr R. S. Abraham (reelected), who in returning thanks for his re-election stated that his heart was in the interests of the Club and that he would be glad to do all that lay within his power for the benefit of the Club. Vice-Presidents: Messrs D. Buick and J. H. P. Strang. Hon. Treasurer: Mr F. J. Nathan Cre-elected). Committee: For the four vacancieson the Committee, Messrs L. A. Abraham, H. R, Cooper, S. W. Luxford, and F. S. Mcßae were elected on a ballot.
