The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, London, dated June 15th: — The mutton market is quiet and trade for all classes very slow, prices being barely maintained. A moderate supply of Canterbury mutton sold at 4d and North Island 3|d per The lamb market is firm, and there is good demand for all classes. Canterbury brands are quoted at sd, and other than Canterbury 6id per The beef market is very arm, and stocks of New Zealand beef are light. Quotations are 4sd and 3fd for hinds and fores respectively. The butter market is firm, notwithstanding large receipts. Choicest New Zealand is 995, Siberian 91s, and Danish 107s. . The cheese market is quiet, ana prices are likely to go lower, owing to Canadian supplies, which are increasing. New Zealand cheese is giving satisfaction to buyers, but complaints are being received of light weights. White 645, colored 635; this season's Canadian cheese 60s. The hemp market is very quiet, and buyers are cautious. Fair grade on spot £29 10s, July^September £29 per ton. Only nominal quotations are obtainable for good fair grade on spot at £33 10s. The cooksfoot seed market is quiet.
