FEILDING FIRE BOARD.
The first meeting of the Feilding Fire Board was held in the Council Chambers this morning Present— The Mayor of Feilding (Mr Trewin), and Messrs Tolley and Fred. Pirani, representing the Feilding Borough Council; Messrs F. Allen, C. A. Ewen and R. M. Simpson, representing the Underwriters' Association ; and Mr W. A. L. Bailey, representing the Government. On the motion of Mr Trewin, seconded by Cr Tolley, Mr Fred. Pirani was elected Chairman of the Board. Some discussion took place as to the advisability of having the first meeting open to the Press, and it was eventually resolved, the Chairman and Mr Trewin dissenting, on the motion of Mr Bailey, seconded by Mr Ewen, That the proceedings of the preliminary meeting be not open to the Press, but that the Chairman furnish a precis of the proceedings for publication. The Mayor presented an estimate of the proposed expenditure totalling £300, as follows: — New material, £100) wages and expenditure on the building, £78 ; Interest and propor- i tion of value of plant, £37; Superin- j tendent, £40 ; deputy-Superintendent £20 ; secretary, £25. This was adop- 1 ted, and the Chairman was autho- j rised to forward it to the Govern- j ment. I On the motion of Mr Trewin, it : was decided that the local members • of the Board prepare a report for i next meeting of tne Board as to the | organisation of the Brigade, and that ; in the meantime the present Brigade and officers be asked to continue in office. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Ewen, it was decided that the Government be asked to fix their contribution towards the cost of the Brigade at one-seventh.
