The Department oF Industries and Commerce, has received the follow--1 ing cable from the High Commission--1 er, dated June Bth : — The upward movement in the mutton markets seem to be arrested; only small stocks of Canterbury are on hand, and there is no change in price to report. There is a good demand for the choicest Brands. Choicest New Zealand 99s per cwt. . The cheese market is quiet. Prices slightly weaker. White, manufactured, 665; coloured, 645. The hemp market is quiet, and only a small business is doing. There is only a small Quantity of good-fair grade on hand, but there is no change in price to report since last week. The directors of the Bank of New Zealand, in their report and balancesheet for the year ended 31st March, state that the profits, after providing for expenses of management, and all bad and doubtful debts, and after naking provision for the annual donation to the provident fund and for bonus to staff an. £350,880 lbs 7d. From this has to be deducted the interest on guaranteed stock of i.40,000, leaving :C?.l 0,880 16s 7d.
