Several interesting matches were got off on the local links yesterday. In the morning a bogey match for a trophy, presented by Col. Gorton, resulted in a tie by Mr Spain and Mr Levin. The best cards were Spain 4 down. Levin 4, Garrett 8, Home 8, L. Gorton B,. Lewis 9, Grut 11, Bailey 11, McCorkindale 13. In the afternoon, mixed foursomes were played for trophies presented by Mr Pryde, which also resulted in a tie, Mr Garrett and Miss Jessie Mailey, and Mr Grut and Miss Julia Bailey handing in cards 6 up. The scores for this match were: — Mr Grut and Miss Julia Bailey 6 up, Mr Garrett and Miss Jessie Bailey 6 up, Mr R. Bailey and Miss S. Bailey 3 up, Mr Spain and Miss Mackay 2 up, Mr Lennon and Mrs Lennoh 2 up, Mr Gillespie and Mrs Gillespie 4 down. The ties will be played off at any time to suit the players. Another interesting match was played off in the afternoon, consisting of a foursome. Col. Gorton was partnered by D. Pryde, and they had for opponents L. Gorton and W. Levin. The first hole went to the veterans, but the youngsters made it al laquare at the second, then things began to look very blue for the old 'uns. At this point, as Hooley says, "the kurnel was fairly off his dhnve so that at the 7th they were 3 down, oat the old warrior was not going to be downed so easily. Shaking his clubs and yelling defiance at his younger opponents, he told them to come on; then taking the bit in his teeth and being ably assisted by his partner, they landed easy winners 5 up and 3 to play.
