KINDON NOTES.

mmmwmw *» (Our Own Correspondent.) OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION. j^-—-A me>-i_-!£ of^the Sandon Old Boys' y Association was held in the supper room of the Sandon Public Hall last Saturday night. Complimentary tickets were handed to all committee members present for distribution among their friends. Members who have not yet received tickets can procure them on application to the secretary. It was decided that the next and last meeting be held on the evening of the 15th inst., to make find arrangements before the actual event, wjiich takes place on the 21st inst. FIRE AT SANSON. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, the Sanson townsfolk were aroused by the alarm of fire, and a great rush was made for the Junction Hotel, which was seen to be in flames in an upper storey. Apparently the fire originated in an upper room, in which a fire was* burning in the grate, and the building being an old one, wain a mass of flame in a few minutes. The fire was first noticed by a man outside. He* immediately informed the occupants, who were dumbfounded by the news, and rushed out into the street and called to those upstairs. All got safely down except one man, who was too late to pass down the fire escape, on account of the dense smoke and flame, but with great presence of mind he fastened a rope within, got through a win- j dow, and let himself down to the ground quite unhurt. The next escapee, which was a greyhound dog, was not quite so fortunate, but with one bound from an upstair window he landed safe on the road. Many willing hands assisted in getting out what little they could. Mr G. Reed, in forcing an entrance, got rather badly cut, by unwisely breaking a window with his hands. In one hour from the outbreak of the fire, the whole place was nothing but a mass of ruins. The few things saved were deposited in the County Council office. FOOTBALL. The Sandon team met more than their match at Foxton last Saturday, in the Albions. Both sides set to work with a will, but there was - no score until within five minutes of call of time, when a To Aute boy who had been playing a magnificent game, got over the line, thus drawing first blood for -Albion. Within half a minute of time another try was scored for the home team, but no goal resulted from either try. For the Sandon boys A. George played a T^tlly good and safe game, and the R-ehardson Bros, also played well. Hartley wants a little more confidence,' as he does not make enough use of his pace. Thompson, McNae, Read, Henderson, Hirst, Knight, the two Williams, and J. Sanson all played strongly; in fact, Sandon were playing well, but on Saturday were outclassed at the close of the game. It behoves the Sandon men to strain every effort to roll up and let Foxton see that they can hold their own, which I feel confident they can do. - The Sanson school boys were beaten at Foxton by 22 points to nil. The Rongotea v. Awahou match, at Rongotea resulted — Awahou 10, Rongotea 3. SANDON RIFLE CLUB. "V The above Club wound up their Msson yesterday with a competition for "trophies and cash prizes, followed m the evening by a smoke, concert, a large number being pre-* sent. Captain S. Penny topped the score with 98, and F. Purnell came next with 95, each carrying off a trophy. The following won cash ana ammunition prizes — F. Lumsden 93, W. Pearce 92, J. A' Court 91, W. Lumsden 89, T. Williams 87, H. Pearce 86, L. Lumsden 84, J. Williams 83, H. Mitchell 82, T. Gurtson 80, J. H. Perrett 76, G. Williams 70.
