[PEB PRBBB ASSOCIATION.] Christohurch, May 29. Hans Bosch, owner of the traction engine with which Mr H. A. C. Fergusson, of Halswell, collided, with . fatal results, on the night of May Sth, was to-day fined £5 for leaving the engine standing on the road at night. Wm. Powers, a prisoner who was undergoing a sentence of 5 years' imprisonment at Hanmer, and who escaped from the prison camp on Monday week last, was committed for trial to-day. Dunedin, May 29. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court concluded this morning, when John Johnston, who pleaded .guilty to several charges of exposing' indecent postcards to a number of young women, was sentenced to five years imprisonment. Medical evidence was tendered *to show that though he was nut insane, the prisoner was a degenerate. Frederick John Gardner, convicted on two charges of receiving stolen goods, was sentenced to six months, and David Isaac Rodgers, for a similar offence, 12 months. Wanganui, May 27. A young man named McLean -was found not guilty on a charge of fcrging a cheque. The Judge said this was the most extraordinary case that had come under his personal notice. Accused and two companions, named Fall and Foster, went to a hotel ,and a cheque was tendered in payment for drink. The hotelkeeper could not swear which of the three tendered the cheque. Foster said he saw a cheque passed over. v the counter, but could not say who passed it. Wall and accused each swore that he did not see the cheque tendered. The Judge said the jury had no Option but to find a verdict of not guilty.
