HOSPITAL NURSES

In connection with the Government proposal to introduce and to pay probationer nurses in the dif' ferent hospitals in the Colony, the Chairman of the South Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr J. Talbot) suggests that such appointments be made as a result of competitive examinations, otherwise^ there is likely to be a scramble for the positions resulting in a system of patronage.
