" THE MESSIAH."

! The Feilding Choral Society is to be congratulated upon its enterprise. After last year's splendid performance of Handel's oratorio, "The Messiah," the wish was expressed by a great number that it should be repeated this year. The committee therefore decided to give another rendering of the work, and are sparing neither pains nor expense to make it even a greater success than that of last year. Acting on the belief that by giving the best possible music they will have the hearty support of the public, the committee have at great expense secured as soloists the best exponents of oratorio solos that the Colony can produce. The selection of principals was a difficult matter, applications having been re ceived not only from Mew Zealand, but also from Australia. The final choice, however, resulted in the appointment of Mrs Glover-Eaton, L.li A.M., and J.S.M., a pupil of the great Signor Garcia; Miss Daisy Taylor, who scored such a unique success at last year's performance that the committee decided to reengage her ; Mr Frank Graham, the English tenor, and late solo tenor in the Carl Rosa Opera Company, and Mr Hamilton Hodges, the renowned bass singer. The chorus work promises to be in advance of the high standard attained last year, when the work was new to many of the performers. Notwithstanding the wet night over 50 assembled at the weekly rehearsal on Monday evening, when under the direction of Mr H. Temple White much useful work wa9 gone through. In view of the huge liability the committee is incurring, it was decided on Monday night to appoint Mesdames Sherwill and Richmond to canvass the town for guarantors. We wish the Choral Society every success.
