The backing of Maniapnto for the Caulfield aod Melbourne Cujjs, both straight out aDd in double, and the scratching of the horse for the New Zealand Cup, mean obviously tbat the Metropolitan Handicap winner will compete in Victoria in the spring. For the New Zealand Cup he had been supported, and quoted at 10 to 1 since tbe acceptances appeared. Iv the Caulrield Cup he has to put 1 lib extra, which brings bis weight up to 9.5, and in the Melbourne Cup he will have to carry 8.10. One of the progeny of the mares purchased by Mr W. Mcßeth of Kiwitea, at Sylvia Park clearing sale, made its first appearance at Marton last week. This was the two-year old colt Rendrock, by Explosion - Stepfast. Like his sire the youngster is brown in colour and has plenty of size. He is one of A. Attwood's Feilding team. There are at present about twenty borses training at Feilding. The club has a practical man as caretaker in E. Jackman who formerly raced King John, and now has Apiti to carry his colours. A. Hall recently took up his residence in Feilding, where he has purchased a property and intends to build eight boxes. He is keeping Nurna, Kaitere and Kremlin going. Sharpnel is running out in the paddook and when taken up will be put to tbe jumping business for which Kremlin is also intended when his days of usefulness on the flat are done. Last Thursday Hall rode Kaitare out and jumped him over a bush fence on the gras3 gallop erected for some of the jumpers engaged at Marton. Tbe Wellington Steeplechase winner is pretty fit. Prior to the Marton meeting A. Attwood had seven borses going, viz., Killarney, Miss King, Bonheur, Apiti, Paper, Paro quet, and Rendrock. L. Procter has Tercelet and Swop going. C. Hammond flutana. A. Raynor, Repulse and Waitatapai. After Bulls meeting the last named trainer expectg to add to his string a two year-old filly by Addirgton — Brown Spec, bred by Mr Donald Fraser.
