In making a fire one used his powder flask, but the powder exploding the flask cut a fearful gash in his throat and burnt his face and eyelids. After five hours' walk in the dark tiny reached the residence of a settler, 11 r F. Holder, in an exhausted state. Reginald Grooby's clothes were saturated with blood. Mr Holder drove them in to Motueka, where the injured lad is reported to be doing well.
