FEILDING WATER AND DRAINAGE SCHEME.
(By " Smoke Test.") When'erl take my walks abroad, How many pipes I see. : The navvy standing in the street j Just chuckles in his glee ! For well he knows, that aitful rnau, Thero's going to be some fun : Those pipes must all bo taken out, The work's been badly done ! So quickly they uproot the streets, And bring those drains to light. Then chuck them on the roadside, They are a gruesome sight. Busted and bent and broken, They face the bright blue sky ; The townsman with averted head, He hurries quickly by. For year by year his rates increase ; He gives a weary groan, To see those open trenches Where his money has been thrown ! And the Council want more money, But he vows with heart and soul, To vote against it manfully, When'er it comes to poll ! So when the next election comes, Let's vote for men with brains, To carry out our water scheme, And close those gaping drains !
