The Directors of the Feilding Pennant Building Society met this afternoon. The work of placing the clock in the Feilding Post Office tower, will begin next week. Tenders are invited by Messrs J. Nathan and Co., for splitting 200 cords of firewood for the Makino Dairy Factory. The funeral of the late daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Lawrence will leave the residence ot the latter, Coal Creek, at 2 p.m. to-morrow (Tuesday) for the Apiti cemetery. In response to a requisition the Mayor, Mr E. Goodbeliere, invites the business people of Feilding to close their premises on Wednesday next,_ at noon, on the occasion of the Feilding Cycle Club sports. Mr H. F. Worsfold inserts a bereavement card to day, in which ho returns, on behalf of his brothers and sisters, thanks to all who accorded expressions of sympathy to thorn in their recent bereavement. He is likely to be laid up for some time. Persons on the look-out for small farms, are again reminded the salo of tho " Merchiston " estate; which takes placo at Marton to-morrow. The land is of magnificent quality, is close to a dairy factory, railway station, and public school, while the terms of salo are so exceptionally easy, that those desiring to secure a freehold dairy farm should not miss the opportunity. The committee of the Feilding Jockey Club met in the Secretary's (Mr E. Goodbehere) office on Saturday evening. A quantity of routine business was disposed of, after which Mr W. Jackson was appointed acting - timekeepor, in lieu of Mr Jas. Scott, who lias loft the district. Mr R. Drury, a former starter of the Club, was elected as a member. Mr W. Wilkinson's tender for enlarging the total isator houso was accepted. Tho funeral of the late Mr Frederick Worsfold took place yesterday, and was one of tho largest ever held in Foilding. Tho cortege, consisting of noarly 50 vehicles, several horsemen, nnd a number of cyclists, left Mr H. F. Worsfold's residence, Ranfurly Road, shortly before 3.30 p.m. for the Feilding comotory, where tho Rev limes Jones conducted tho funeral service at the grave. Many beautiful wreaths were sent and placed on tho coffin, showing the rospect in which the deceased young man was held. All preparations are, now complete for the Cycle Club's sports on Wednesday next, and judging by tho number of nominations received and when such men as " Lawson " and " Martin," are to compote it should attract a number of people. Tho first race will start at 1 2.30 sharp, and the committee have decided to run the events oft" punctually to time. The day's sport will conclude with an entertainment in the Assembly Rooms in aid of the funds of the Club by Hart's Surprise Party, now touring tho district. There is no doubt Pahiatua is advancing in tho right direction, the Borough Council having spent upwards of £200 on improving their now recreation grounds, now claim to have one of the safest and best cycle tracks in the colony, it being very similar to that of Lancaster Park, Christchurch. Tho Athletic Club are holding their first annual sports on the new ground on Easter Monday, and having provided a very liberal programme should receive bumper nominations for the various events, as the competitors are assured of a safe rido and the public a real good days' sport. A mooting the committee of tho Acclimatisation Society was hold on Friday night. Correspondence was received from Messrs Chirnwde, T. E. Donne, and U.S.S. Co., re red deer, which may be expected shortly, from Colonial Secretary re lapwings. Secretary of Wellington Society stating they aro unablo to supply yearling trout, and from W. Fulton, Marton, to say that 500 perch would be forwarded by goods train arriving here about 1 45 p.m., on March 9th. It is hoped that any settlers having suitable dams, and who would like to stock them with perch will meet tho above train with some sort of vessel for carrying tho fish when tho secretary will try to supply their i... r ~ :u.
