MANCHESTER ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Manchester Road Board was held yesterday. Present— Wardens, G. Wheeler (Chairman), W. G. Pearce, J. Piereey, W. Peterson, E. Bosher, and 0. 0. Pleasants. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr G. Wheeler wrote complaining that several holes in the Makino Road required filling. The Engineer stated that the "work was being at* tended to. Mr A. Harding, Siberia, Ashhurst, wrote offering an annual sum for the use of the ferry at the Gorge. The Chief Road Surveyor for* warded forms for the purpose of entering thereon all necessary piMio works required in the district. As the time previously fixed had been found too limited, the writer stated that the filled in forms would be received up till May 24th. Milverton and Sons notified that they were willing to enter into aeon* tract for road rolling for three years, provided ten months' work was guaranteed. The Colonial Secretary's office for* warded a notification to the effect that the Board could change the sub-divisions in the district, and could, therefore, join the severed portion of the Borough to any ward. The Chief Road Surveyor wrote requesting permission to run a verification line along Kimbolton road.— Agreed to, provided the traffic is not impeded thereby. Mr A. Dermer wrote complaining that a contractor had pitched his camp on a piece of land the writer was leasing from the Board. — The Engineer stated that he had requested the contractor to remove his camp. Sixteen ratepayers, residing at Ashhurst, sent in a petition asking that a ranger be put on there immediately. Mr W. G. Haybittle, in accordance with instructions, forwarded his report on the adjustment of the accounts between the Borough Council and the Board in respeot to the separation of the northern portion of the Borough. -After a lengthy discussion, during which no conclusion was arrived at, it was decided to go into committee and consider the matter. The Engineer stated that he had made arrangements with Messrs Whisker Bros for the widening of the formation of the Aorangi road. Mr C. Bray, the Returning Officer. notified that Mr D. Quarrie had been elected, unopposed, to the Board for No. 1 ward. GENERAL RATE. The general rate for the current year was fixed at £d in the £ capital value. RESOLUTIONS. That a loan be raised in Nos. 6 and 7 Wards, excluding those sections used for the Valley Road diversion, to construct the roads scheduled by the Engineer. That the six chains of formation and metalling asked for by Mr Jensen on Redmayne Street, Bunny. thorpe, be put in hand at once. That the Board's seal be affixed to the application for loan of £250 for construction of the continuation of Pharazyn's road. That Warden Pearce be efefed Treasurer for the ensuing year. That the Engineer be instructed to ease the corner on McDonald's road. That the chairman consult with Member of the District and take the necessary steps to form the Manchester Road Board into a County. The tenders of Watson Bros, for painting bridges at £6 10s each, was accepted. The meeting then adjourned until Friday, May 9th, at 11 a.m.
