At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night, it was decided that the Ranfurly Cup be open for competition by all unions affiliated to frhe,N.Z.R.U., subject to certain rules which provide that at the end of 1902 season the cup shall be allotted to the strongest team of the year ; that such union shall hold the cup subject to a right of challenge by any affiliated union : that all challenge matches be played on the ground of the holders of the cup. This Day. A proposal was before the New Zealand Rugby Union last night with reference to sending a New Zealand team to England, but was checked by the chairman on a point of order. It was finally resolved to give five weeks notice of motion bearing on the subject. Later. It is stated that a legal opinion has been given that the chairman of the Rugby Union was wrong in his ruling on the motion with reference to the New Zealand team for England.
