Feilding Fire Brigade.

The monthly meeting of the Feilding Fire Brigade was held last evening. Present— Captain Newman (in the chair), Lieutenant Paul, Foreman Hurdle, Branchmen Wilson and W. Marston, Firemen G. Marston, A. Toy, T. Bramwell, W. Lowe, H. Marston (senr), H. Christensen, S. Marston, B. Potier, H. Marston (junr), J. Humphrey, and Secretary Fitzgerald. Correspondence was received from the United Fire Brigades' Association stating that the conference and competitions previously announced to be held in Christchurch on January 21st ancl 22nd had been unavoidably postponed until February 25th and 26th. A copy of the official programme of the demonstration was also received. The following were selected to represent the Brigade in the competitions aKhe demonstration :— Capt Newman, Firemen A. Toy,H. Marston, W. Lowe and S. Marston. Mr H. Bishop was elected an active member of the Brigade and two others were nominated. Secretary Fitzgerald was unanimously elected to represent the. Brigade at the annual conference to be held at Christchurch. It was decided to hold a competition for trophies at the Brass Band fete to be held on the Oval on the 22nd inst. I Before the meeting commenced the engine was taken to the well in Manchester Square to test the new rubber hose which lately arrived from England to the order of the Borough Council. A line of delivery was laid from the Engine to the Denbigh Hotel and with eleven men on the levers (half the complement) and a three-quarter inch nozzle on the branch, it was found possible to throw a jet on the roof of the Hotel. The test was deemed satisfactory and the secretary was instructed to report to the Borough Council. The following are the conditions and handicaps for the competition which will take place at the Band's Garden Fete on the 22nd instant, for Lieutenant Paul's medal : ; - Conditions— Man to stand 20 yards on near side of engine in full working uniform; at signal given run to engine, losk fore-carriage, turn over, secure, and unlock levers, connect one length of suction hose to engine (strainer to be previously attached), rnn out and connect to near side of engine 50 feet of canvas hose, fix branch, run back to engine, give one stroke of levers on beat-blocks. Delivery hose to be made up in coil and strapped, and with branch detached, placed in body of engine, not on rocking shaft. Suction hose to be inside pockets. Lids closed, all caps on. Time from start to stroke on beatblocks.
