Pollard's Opera Company.
Mr Clement Scott, the world-famed writer, who is also termed '* The Prince of Critics " in answering a correspondent said " You ask me what do I consider as the best comic opera ever written. Well, I have witnessed the first night of some hundreds, a few of them being still standard attractions, while the majority have been regulated to the shelf. I like 'La M«sootte,' ' Les Cloches de Cornville/ and ' Paul Jones,' and if I bad to use a tporting phrase, to pick it in one, I would unhesitatingly choose the latter." That this eminent entio was right is borne oat by the fact that at the present time, this opera is being played in America, by ten travelling companies, and in England by eight. Not only is this work aoknowledged as being the most tuneful of modern works, but it is considered as by far the best thing Mr Pollard's clever com* pany has yet done. This is a large order as we have had some really first-class representations of comic opera by this popular combination. " Paul Jones " will be staged in Feilding on Friday evening next.
