Mayoral Elections.
GEO. FISHER ELECTED FOR WELLINGTON. FISH DEFEATED FOR DUNEDIN. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, November 27. Great interest was centred in the election for Mayor, and from the opening of the poll large numbers of supporters of the candidates— Messrs C. M. Luke (present Mayor) and Geo. Fisher — were hard at work conveying electors to polling boths. At 6.30 the poll was declared ■ as follows :— Geo. Fisher 1250, Luke 925. The contest was conducted throughout in a friendly spirit. The result was received with great enthusiasm. Palmkrston N., Nov. 27. Intense interest was evinced in the Mayoral election, which took place today, and the polling was the heaviest ever recorded for a local election. Result—Wood 391, Snelson 170. Masterton, Nov. 27. Following is the result of the election for Mayor : — Geo. Heron 139, C. A. Pownall 133, R. E. Hornblow 74. Dunedin, Nov. 25. Great interest was taken in the polling for election of Mayor to-day. The result was— N. N. A. Wales 1056, Fish 705. Christchurch, Nov. 27. Considerable interest was taken in the Mayoral election, the result beiug — Cr H. J. Beswick, 844 ; Cr H. H. Widdowson, 566. Pahiatua, This Day. At the Mayoral election D. Crewe defeated J. Vile, the present Mayor by a majority of nine.
