Land and Income Tax.
(Per Press Association! Sydney, This Day. At a late hour last night the Conference reported they had reduced the land exemption to £240, and income tax exemption to i>2oo. The tax on absentees was abolished, and it was agreed the land tax should be paid by the mortgagor) subject to certain exemptions. In respect of income tax mutual life societies, and other institutions not carrying on business for profit, will be exempt from taxation except in regard to income from mortgages. The terms of the compromise will be considered by both Chambers on Tuesday.
