THE CLOSURE APPLIED. [Per Press Association! Svdnky, Juue 4. Mr Varney Parkes, son of Mr 11. Parkes has resigned his seat in the Assembly. Mr Reid, speaking to the financial resolutions, said an opportunity would be given members to propose amendments to the tariff, but the Government would not bind themselves to accept them. They were averse to applying the closure, but if necessary would do so. Sir G. Dibbs said the Opposition intended to fight every item, and dared the Government to apnly the closure. He moved as an amendment, That the existing duties bo continued till 1900. The debate is still going on. This Day. The Legislative Assembly is still sitting and no progress is made with business owing to the obstructive tactics of the Opposition. The Speaker applied the closure to Mr Thomas Mose {'?), member for Argyle, who was making a stonewall speech and had spoken for three hours.
