Australian Tariffs.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney, June 4. In the Assembly the Treasurer introduced a resolution to' give effect to the alterations in the tariff, foreshadowed in the Budget. The duty on butter is reduced from 2d to Id per lb ; the duty on agricultural and dairy procluco and fish remains till June 30th of next year. The permanent tariff fixes the duty on beer at 6d to 9J per gallon ; wines, 5s per gallon ; spirits, 1-is per gallon ; nnd tobacco, 3s per lb. Melbourne, June ~>. In tho Assembly tho Minister of Customs made a statement as to the Government proposals for alterations in the tariff. The Government were moderate Protectionists and the recommendations adopted therefore were not likely to interfere with established industries. The importation of prison made goods would be prohibited. Tbe duty on tobacco manufactured in tbe colony would be raised from 6d to 9d ; cigarettes from 6d to 2s The duty on sugar locally refined would be raisen from 5s to os 6d. r lhis Day, Under the new tariff the duty on horses is abolished.
