Feilding Fire Brigade.

The annual meeting of the above was held on Wednesday evening last, wben there was a good attendance of members. Captain Eade was in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The report and balance-sheet were read as follows : — REPORT. In presenting the annual report and balance-sheet for your consideration, the Brigade may be fairly congratulated on the success of the 1 * efforts made by the public to place the Brigade on a sounder financial basis. The debt of £85 on the engine and plant was paid off on December llth, 1894, the amount being collected by public subscription, for which the Brigade desire to thank the committee of gentlemen who worked so energetically to attain this end. The thanks of tbe Brigade are also due to Mr C L. Maclean and the ladies and gentlemen who so kindly assisted at the concert ; to Mr J. Cobbe for permitting tho Brigade to erect a temporary shed on his premises, and to thoso gentlemen who so liberally acknowledged the efforts of the Brigade at the fire on October 24th last. There were four serious fires during the year, which resulted in the total destruction of the buildings, the ef. forts of the Brigade being somewhat marred owing to the inadequacy of the water supply, and the bursting of hose. The amount of insurances on the buildings and contents destroyed amounted to £2,150. During the year the Brigade have added to the plant a union, at a cost of £2 6s, and a hose reel costing £10. The engine and reel are in good condition, but the hose needs badly replacing at a cost of about £50. A temporary shed has been erected at a cost of £4 103, on Mr Cobbe's premises, but it is hoped that more suitable buildings will soon be provided by the Borough Council. By a grant of £25 from the Borough Council the Brigade were enabled to sink a well at the corner of Manchester and Grey streets, costing about £28. There are at the present time about twenty-five working members in the in the Brigade, wbich is steadily increasing, and thirteen honorary members. It is hoped that a marked increase will be shown in the latter, as they are the backbone of Volunteer Firo Brigades. Henry Worsfold, Hon. Secretary. BALANCE- SHEET. With a credit balance in the bank on May 4th, 1864, of £15 ls lld, and donations, etc., during the year, tho receipts stood at £73 ls sd. The expenditure — the chief items in which were cost of well, nearly £28, and hose reel £10— amounted to £66 7s 6d, thus leaving a credit balance at the bank of £6 3s lld. It was resolved, That the report and balance-sheet be received, and that the Secretary be instructed to have the amounts proptr'.y audited by next meeting. The following were duly elected to the respective offices, viz., Captain Eade, Lieut. Newman, Foreman Muller, Foreman of engine H, Mansell, Secretary and treasurer Mr H. Worsfold, Messrs Beard," Hughey, and J. T. Evans, were duly electei members of the Brigade. Resolved, That Capt. Eade, Fireman Thompson, and others, be a deputation to wait on the Borough Council re sicking a well in Fergusson street. Resolved, That the officers, with Firemen Humphreys and Thompson, be a committee to arrange and fix date of the competitioa, and make the necessary arrangements for social and dance in the evening. Resolved, Tbat Mr Parkes be reinstatdd a member of tho Brigade. The meeting then adjourned
