The Passion Play.
Q An opportunity will be afforded in Feildingon Monday 13th May, of witnessing an exhibition of one of the most,'realistic spectacles that can be seen on this earth, and which takes place as a sacred religious rite every ten years at Obe» Ammergau in Bavaria. The only surviving miracle play which is produced there every decade was written by the Parish Priest, and has the sanction of His Holiness the Pope, on the ground that it is the outcome of a holy vow. Some 250 years ago a horrid plague raged through Germany and at last spread to the Ober Ammergau and to propitiate the deity the people vowed the performance of the Passion, every ten years, provided they were delivered from the plague. This it is said was the case, and so the play is perpetuated, It is an extraordinary spectacle, and possesses the greatest interest to all Christians as illustrating the story on which they base their faith. Treated as it is by Mr Bentley, in a reverent manner, it affords a unique object lesson Christianity.
