The Figaro reports that in the course of an interview Lord Cromer, British representative in Egypt, declared that anarchy was certain to follow che evacuation of the country by the British, and that it was impossible even to consider such a step at present. He added that the attitude of France in encouraging turbulence in the country only served to prolong the term of British occupation. JLondon, March 17. Speaking in the House of Commons Mr Campbell Bannerman, Secretary of State for the War Department, said it was his intention shortly to withdraw a battalion from Egypt, and strengthen the forces at the Cape and Mauritius He remarked that the croaking recently indulged in about the state of the British Army was unjustified, and he thought the best policy was to leave well alone.
