A match for £5 a-side was arranged yesterday morning between Kissing Cup and Pyramus, and it was run off ou the new racecourse in the afternoon, the distance being one mile. Mr Ward rode his own mare, and J. Quin, of Turakina, had the mount on Pyramus. Both got well away, but before a few yards had been traversed Pyramus was to the front, pulling double. The race henceforth was a mere procession, as Kissing Cup could not get up to the Natator gelding, and she was eased up on entering the straight, thus allowing Pyramus to win in a canter. Mr Ward ran his horsa Cossack against Mr Armstrong's grey pony Obadiah shortly after the Pyramus-Kissing Cup rnaccu was decided for a stake of £2. The distance was half a mile, and Cossack conceded his opponent 30 yards start. Obadiah, who got the best of the start, was never collared, and won easily. A very large number of spectators were present to witness the matches. (per press association.) Melbourne, February 23. Fair business was done over the two principal events of the V.R.C.
