SOLDIERS’ CLUB
A HOME AWAY FROM HOME
ESTABLISHMENT IN KING STREET
Initialed by the Pukekohe Returned Services’ Association, .arrangements have been completed io open a flub for .soldiers in Pukekohe. Mr James Roulston has offered (and it has been accepted) the use of his buildings in lowef King Street free of rent, and also a piano for the use of the troops. Men of the Forces and Mrs V. L. Harvey spent yesterday and today in making the interior presentable.
The Association, in an advertisement in today’s Times, appeals to the generosity of the public of Pukekohe to assist in furnishing the club either by donating or loaning articles of furniture. The requirements are detailed. It is intended to set up music, card, writing, reading and games rooms and To make.the club a home away from home, where soldiers can spend an hour or so in comfort when on leave instead of having to roam 1 lie streets as they do at present. Three ladies will be in attendance each evening to serve hot drinks and attenrl 1o the “canteen” section of the dull. On no account will intoxicating liquor of any kind be allowed on the premises. It is hoped to open the club next week and all those who can assist in the appeal should communicate with Mr V. L. Harvey, secretary of the Association. at once.
It is also hoped to appoint a caretaker for the premises.
