NATIONAL DEFENCE
AUCKLAND WAR COUNCIL
FILLING UP THE GAPS
Members of the Auckland Farmers’ Union are not satisfied that the maximum war effort is being made. They consider that there are many weak spots in the Dominion’s defence preparations and that these could be largely remedied, so far as the rural districts are concerned, by proper organisation based on personal contacts wlfich the Union is in a position to make. With this object in view it was unanimously decided at last week’s meeting to form an Auckland Provincial War Council, which it is intended shall function as an independent body operating throughout Ihe Auckland Province and concerning itself with all matters appertaining to the defence of the people and their homes. Captain A. C. A. Sexton was appointed honorary organising secretary. It is intended forthwith to establish local representation throughout the province, and it is proposed to invite co-operation with bodies at present engaged in various phases of war effort such as the “Wake Up New Zealand’’ organisation in the Waikato.
